I Tried Annie’s New Grilled Cheese & Dill Pickle Mac Flavors—Here’s The One I’d Eat Again

  • Annie’s has launched two new mac and cheese flavors: Macaroni & Grilled Cheese and Super! Mac Dill Pickle.
  • I taste-tested both new varieties to see how well the flavors actually came through.
  • One was solid but subtle, while the other was a much bigger surprise.

I have long been a fan of Annie’s Homegrown mac and cheese, and now there’s even more reason to stock your shelves with box upon box of the comforting dish. The brand is introducing two brand-new flavors that dial up that comfort factor: Macaroni & Grilled Cheese Mac & Cheese and Super! Mac Dill Pickle Mac & Cheese.

The former is currently available at Target and will roll out to additional retailers later this year. While the idea of a grilled cheese-flavored macaroni and cheese dish makes perfect sense, it surprisingly wasn’t the one that impressed me most.

If there were a bowl in front of me, would I eat it? Absolutely. But I still prefer the traditional version.

This iteration incorporated some of the smoky notes you get from toasting the bread on a grilled cheese, but the flavor is subtle enough that it doesn’t necessarily scream “grilled cheese.” I’m not sure I would have identified it without knowing what I was eating, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad—it just didn’t quite wow me.

That brings us to the Dill Pickle mac. I’ll be honest: I didn’t expect to like this one. Cheese and pickles have never seemed like such an obvious pairing, but this mac and cheese far exceeded my expectations.

Annie’s nailed the balance of briny dill pickle flavor and cheese, and somehow the combination just worked. I kept going back for bite after bite.

Best of all, the Dill Pickle Mac & Cheese packs 14 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber, making it an easy choice for lunch or dinner. Even if you’re sick of America’s ongoing pickle craze, this is one version you might want to get on board with.

The Dill Pickle Mac & Cheese is available exclusively online at Target, Walmart, and Amazon.
